Read This Article If You Want To Stop Smoking

One of the worst things you can do to your body is to smoke too much. How much is too much? Well, if you smoke, then you are already smoking too much. It is a disgusting habit and you are well aware how it turns off other around you. You may even be turned off yourself with yellow teeth, bad breath and the smoker’s cough. Quitting smoking or any addiction really is hardly and easy thing to do. I once had a friend and he use to joke as he said he had the record for quitting smoking? I said how so? He told me he quite smoking over 1100 times. I laughed and we both got a chuckle but really it is kind of sad, because he later got lung cancer. Bummer, he was a good man; everyone loved him.

Quitting smoking is easier than quitting drinking although that does not mean it will be easy, it is a very tough thing to do. One of the number one New Year’s Resolution in a recent People’s Magazine Survey was to quit smoking. Of course it was also the number one failed New Years Resolution as well, right up there with losing 15 pounds and then keeping it off. Nicotine has a 3-stangle hold on smokers and it can be overcome, but it will not be easy, because you will have headaches and could get the shakes too. Even after you get over the nicotine habit, then there is the psychological issues such as what to do with your hands all the time. It is said to be a really weird thing to get over. Think on this.

Contrary to popular belief, blackheads are not the result of dirt accumulating in overly deep pores. The "black" part arises from a combination of dead skin cells and sebum, or oil, although it is actually the skin particles that cause the color.

Unlike pimples, which can be a bacterial infection that turns the skin red and fills a pocket with pus, blackheads are flat spots that have filled with the cells that our skin sheds on a daily basis, and oil from the sebaceous glands. But people will treat them the same as pimples and try to squeeze or pop them to remove the unsightly mark. This is the last thing you should do, as it irritates the skin, and can start an infection under the plug of dirt and oil.

Actual removal of blackheads can be done by a dermatologist who uses a small cylindrical instrument that has a tiny opening that goes over the blackhead. It's pressed on the spot for a few seconds, and the resulting pressure around the edges will help dislodge the plug in the pore.

Prevention is they key to reducing the incidence of blackheads, as some people who have particularly active sebaceous glands, especially on the forehead or along the nose and chin, may have blackheads most of their lives.

While a good soap will help remove the oils on your skin, it doesn't get rid of the dead skin cells. A cleanser with salicylic acid will not only clean surface oil, but will get rid of skin debris that is waiting to clog up more pores. Alpha-hydroxi acid formulas will help to gently exfoliate the dead skin cells so there is less shedding skin left on the surface to sink down into pores.

Glycolic peels are very useful, in that they not only remove dead skin cells, but help loosen and lift some of the clogged material in pores. It may take five or six peels, to see visible results. Generally speaking, a home program of salicylic acid cleansers and glycolic peels is the key to reducing the number of blackheads that you get.

The only time you should not use the peels, is if you are using a topical retinoid, which loosens the blackheads, while speeding up the rate at which dead skin cells are sloughed off. Both of these at once, can cause skin irritation.

First and foremost, your best defense for winter skin care is protection! Even during the winter months, you absolutely need to continue to apply SPF 15 or greater sunscreen when outside. Even though you might think the sun's effects are diminished during the winter months, nothing could be farther from the truth. The reflection of the sun off snow and ice can be particularly damaging. Wearing a scarf that can be easily pulled up to protect the cheeks and bottom portion of your face is also a helpful preventative measure to limit the skin's exposure to the elements.

Although it may seem contradictory, dry skin benefits tremendously from exfoliation to help eliminate the flaking skin cells, to smooth the skin's surface and promote cell rejuvenation. Whether you choose to use a chemical exfoliant such as an AHA product like glycolic acid or a mechanical means such as a facial scrub, incorporating a means of exfoliation into your routine at least a few times a week can dramatically improve dry skin. And for heavens sakes, don't use any type of astringents or soap. They will only dry out the skin more. Instead, try using a super rich cleanser such as one with a soy or oatmeal ingredient to give your skin a conditioning treatment as you cleanse.

Maintaining the skin's moisture content during the winter months is also critical. The skin is typically well hydrated after a warm shower or steaming facial. Immediately seal in the moisture with a skin cream rich in emollients. Moisturizers keep the skin conditioned while offering protection against the harsh effects of the cold. The drier the skin becomes, the more frequently a moisturizer should be applied.

To treat any of those very dry, scaly patches that might develop, use a petroleum based product on the affected areas before bed. Believe it or not, plain old Vaseline works wonders on stubborn dry, cracked, and flaking skin. Unfortunately, most people cringe at the idea of using Vaseline on their face, thinking that it will clog pores and, in general, have a negative effect on the skin. In a word- untrue! Vaseline and similar petroleum based products provide a protective, insulating barrier for the skin on those frigid, windy days when applied as a light coat to the face and lips.

Finally, for those irritating patches of skin that persistently plague you despite your best efforts, an over-the-counter antibiotic ointment has significant healing effects on skin that is cracked and sore. For the extremely dry, flaking and itchy spots an OTC hydrocortisone cream can provide both relief from the itching and diminish the dry, flaking symptoms. Please bear in mind that if your condition persists, it is best to consult with a Physician to find the best remedy for your particular skin condition.

Every woman's breasts are different so it is important for each individual woman to be familiar with her breasts in order to recognize any peculiarities.

Unfortunately, the early stages of breast cancer may not have any symptoms. This is why it is important to follow screening recommendations. As a tumor grows in size, it can produce a variety of symptoms including:

  • lump or thickening in the breast or underarm
  • change in size or shape of the breast
  • nipple discharge or nipple turning inward
  • redness or scaling of the skin or nipple
  • ridges or pitting of the breast skin
If you experience these symptoms, it doesn't necessarily mean you have breast cancer, but you need to be examined by a doctor.

Breast cancer is very rare before age 20 and is rarely diagnosed in women younger than age 25. Past that age, the incidence rises steadily to reach a peak around the age of menopause. The rate of increase is lessened after menopause, but older women are still at increasing risk over time.

Although a specific cause for breast cancer has not been identified, there are risk factors that increase the likelihood that a woman will develop a breast cancer. These risks include:
  • Maternal relative with breast cancer.
  • Women who start their menstruation early and/or go into early menopause, increasing the length of reproductive years, are at greater risk.
  • Obesity. Women who are overweight are at increased risk
  • Women who have never had children are at greater risk.
  • Women who had their first child over age 30 are at greater risk.
  • Previous breast cancer.
  • Previous endometrial cancer.
Aside from the genetic predisposition, the common factor in many of these risks is increased endogenous estrogen exposure over a long time.

It is recommended that women over 35 check their breasts monthly. However, it is also important that all women do regular breast checks. Your doctor can show you how to effectively check your breasts. Any lump, regardless of size, should be reported to your doctor. Many of these lumps are simply fatty lumps or cysts but it is far better to be safe than sorry.

Catching breast cancer early makes a big difference in the type of treatment needed as well as the overall prognosis.

Mattresses are made from a number of different materials and technology, even air. When we hear the word air, we tend to think of those plastic camping pieces we used to blow up. Today however, they are very sophisticated with the airbed sleep system. Airbeds allow you to customize your side of the bed to the comfort level that best suits you. You can have it soft or firm that is entirely up to you. Airbeds are designed to provide maximum body support to assist with proper spinal alignment. This will allow a great night's rest. So if an airbed is not for you, think memory foam mattress. It supports without pressure points. The tempurpedic mattress actually uses your own body heat to keep your bed at the perfect sleeping temperature.

There are hundreds of mattresses on the market today including coil, water beds, floatation, inner spring and latex. Leading manufacturers include Serta, Sealy, Powell, Simmons, Spring Air and Kingsdown. Features being offered include no-flipping, shock absorbers, lumbar cradle titanium bands, premium comfort layers, various support zones, individually encased coils and pillow tops. Two very popular choices are the memory foam mattress and tempurpedic mattress. They have been proven to be very effective for people with back and joint problems. They offer support without the pressure points leaving you pain free and well rested in the morning.

Repeated injections of Botox, or botulinum toxin type A, helped stroke survivors regain enough function to perform everyday activities such as dressing themselves without pain, said Dr. Allison Brashear, a professor and chairman of neurology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C.

"It's evident that Botox makes a difference in function," she said.

Brashear presented the findings Friday at the American Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation annual meeting, in Philadelphia. The study was funded by Allergan Inc., the company that developed Botox.

The study, based on seven statistical analyses by 43 researchers and published in The New England Journal of Medicine, found that screening as practiced in the United States reduced the rate of death from breast cancer by 7 percent to 23 percent, depending on the analysis.

Although some researchers have questioned the value of routine screening, in the United States women are urged to have regular mammograms beginning in their 40s for early detection of the disease.

Laser hair removal: The latest technology in the long list of hair removal solutions, laser hair removal offers a easy to use, extremely effective method to get rid of unwanted body hair and is long lasting in its effect. Men and Women alike have benefited from this superb technology which promises unwanted hair removal from virtually any part of the human body. The principle of hair removal by laser is based on the fact that thermal agitation of the hair follicle and bulb under the skin causes the bulb to destabilize, break down and forego the capability of regeneration. Thus laser hair removal is precise and effective in hair removal.

Shaving: The most common and the oldest hair removal solution in the market today and world different from laser hair removal. Shaving is a self administered hair removal solution in daily use by both men and women for getting rid of body hair. The equipment required is low-tech : a shaving razor, brush and cream is all that you need. However the application is limited to only areas on your body that you can see and reach and is not definitely applicable for the tender areas on the human body. This is not a permanent hair removal solution as well.

Tweezing: Otherwise called plucking, this method involves using a pair of tweezers to pull the hair out of the skin to ensure hair removal. This method is particularly painful and suffers from the same drawbacks of shaving in terms of permanence of effect and areas of applicability. It is hard to imagine that laser hair removal and tweezing essentially are solutions to virtually the same problem.

Electrolysis: Before the onset of laser hair removal, electrolysis was widely touted as a very effective method for hair removal. It’s different from hair removal by laser in the sense that, instead of a laser beam destabilizing the hair root, it’s an electric current that does the same job. This treatment also needs to be administered for a longer period of time as compared to laser hair removal and is definitely not for the faint hearted.

In our opinion amongst all the options of hair removal available in the market today, laser hair removal seems to be the most promising. Its just a matter of time before the technology becomes so prevalent that even for the unfortunate few for whom cost is a hurdle, it will be within reach of their financial boundaries!

What is Melanoma?

In the simplest terms, melanoma is the bad kind of skin cancer. The cancer cells develop as odd shaped and colored moles on the surface of the skin and sometimes in the eye. Melanoma can metastasize (spread) to other organs in the body such as the liver, lungs, and brain. Doctors diagnose about 53,000 people each year with melanoma. Most skin cancer deaths are caused by melanoma. If there is some good news, it’s that if caught and treated early, melanoma can be cured.

What is Curcumin?

Curcumin is the active ingredient in the herb turmeric. Curcumin is a member of the ginger family and is ground from the root of the curcuma longa plant. It has been used for thousands of years in India and many Asian countries as a food preservative, coloring agent, folk remedy and a food flavoring.

Curcumin vs. Chemotherapy

According to one of the researchers associated with the UT study, one of the most exciting aspects of curcumin is its low toxicity. People seam to be able to handle large doses of curcumin with no side effects. This is in contrast to chemotherapy were most forms of the treatment cause serious adverse reactions.

Where to buy Curcumin

If you want to get started taking curcumin you should be able to find it in supplement form at your favorite natural pharmacy. Make sure to get the kind that is 95% curcumin. It is too early to have dosage levels for fighting cancer but most practitioners are recommending a dosage of 400-600 mg 3 times daily.

Below is a great recipe if you want to start using this powerful spice on some or your food preparations:

Uncle Mike’s Turmeric Chicken Cha Cha

This recipe will give you a big dose of turmeric. Remember, the active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin. When you go to the store to get your spices look for turmeric, you will not find curcumin. I use Spice Islands brand but there are usually others available depending on the store. Be careful with this spice as if you get it on your clothing it is very hard to remove.

Mix equal parts of soy sauce and light olive oil together in a bowl

Pour Soy/Olive oil mixture over chicken breasts and let them marinate for a few hours

Prepare a spice mixture of 3 parts turmeric and 2 parts garlic powder

Cover the marinated chicken with the spice mixture (I just sprinkle it on with a salt shaker)

Bake for one hour at 325 degrees

Remove and cook on grill for 4 minutes on each side over medium heat

The last step is optional but is my favorite step during the summer season. If you don’t use the grill then bake for about an hour and fifteen minutes

Enjoy!

1.) Drink More Water

One of the best weight loss secrets is to ditch the sodas and stick to water! Experts say you should drink approximately eight glasses of water a day to stay hydrated and healthy. Instead of turning to calorie-laden or sugar-rich drinks, grab a refreshing glass of water. In addition to flushing toxins out of your system, drinking water encourages you to build muscle.

2.) Eat More Meals

A traditional three-meals-a-day plan just will not cut it if you are in the market to burn fat. Your body is not able to metabolize large meals and will quickly turn any excess into fat. Many experts believe you should eat six small meals a day. Be sure you cut back on your food consumption at each meal, or else you will be doubling your intake—and doubling your fat storage!

3.) Work Out with Weights

One great way to maximize the amount of fat you are burning is to add a weight program to your work out routine. Weight training will not only tone your physique, but will strengthen your body and improve your general health. Lifting weights will also burn calories and fat more quickly than traditional exercising, and it will also boost your metabolism.

4.) Choose Protein

Choose protein-laden foods for boosting your metabolism and enabling your body to burn fat rapidly. In addition to burning fat, consuming a protein-enriched diet will help you rebuild muscle after work outs and maintain leanness of that muscle. Wisely choose proteins for your diet. Take great care to pick proteins low in fat so you do not consume extra calories.

5.) Cut Calories Wisely

It may be tempting to drastically cut your calorie intake when starting a healthy lifestyle. Instead, use a step method when cutting your calorie intake to minimize risk. Reducing calories too quickly results in your body rapidly burning all available calories, which will lower your metabolism. Furthermore, you are more likely to maintain your healthy lifestyle through this step method.

6.) Reward Yourself

When it comes to successfully dieting to burn the most fat, be sure to reward yourself. Everyone has temptations and favorite treats—so allow indulgence. You will be less likely to cheat on your new diet if you grant yourself small rewards. If you are a chocolate lover, treat yourself to a small square of chocolate or single chocolate kiss each evening.

7.) Avoid Marathon Work Outs

The biggest mistake people make when looking to burn fat and lose weight is to have one long, extensive work out session. Instead, break up your work out plan into small chunks throughout the day. Take a brisk walk in the morning, enjoy a work out at lunch, and then exercise more in the evening. In addition to staying active all day long, breaking up your work out will better maintain your metabolism.

8.) Mix It Up

Choosing to engage in a variety of quality exercises will keep your interest and best allow you to maintain your goal of burning fat. Instead of doing the same exercises each day—mix it up! Opt to swim laps one day, jog another, and bike the next. Rotating your activities will not only allow you to experience a variety of athletics, it will also allow you to better tone your body.

9.) Skip Happy Hour

For those individuals who want to burn fat quickly, avoid alcohol. Rich in sugars and carbohydrates, alcohol is a calorie-rich substance. These empty calories can add up quickly and take away from necessary nutrients that should be included in your daily diet. Furthermore, alcohol acts as an inhibitor for burning fat, allowing your body to store it more quickly.

10.) Try a Low GI Diet

A low GI diet is an excellent method of burning fat quickly. This diet encourages individuals to consume high amounts of foods with low rankings on the Glycemic Index. These foods are nutritious and will aid your body in burning fats and calories at a quicker pace. This diet includes many of your favorite fruits, vegetable, meats, dairy, and grain products.

If the product contains petrochemicals, additives, coloring, dyes, or other chemicals, which enhance its appearance and feel, I would not use them. Most, if not all, of these chemicals will be absorbed into your body where your organs of elimination will have to deal with eliminating them.

All products whether drugs, drugstore medications, or natural formulations use chemicals, substances, oils, and herbs that have the following properties:

* Anesthetics – suppresses pain and gives relief…any name with the suffix “caine” like tetracaine

* Analgesics – suppresses and give pain relief – some of them are Anacin, Tylenol with Codeine, OxyContin, Darvocet, Ultracet

* Vasoconstrictors – helps to narrow or constrict hemorrhoidal veins…any name with the suffix “rine” like phenylephrine

* Lubricants – provide lubrication in the colon to relieve constipation – mineral oil, flax seed oil, castor, oil olive oil

* Astringents – help to tighten tissue, which have been pushed out by hemorrhoid action – zinc oxide, witch hazel, calamine

* Keratolytics – help to remove excess hemorrhoidal tissue. They are compounds of sulfur and salicylic acid

Many of the drugstore medications have anesthetics. They can aggravate and irritate the hemorrhoids you’re trying to eliminate. If you are using one of these drugstore medications, consider using a more natural remedy.

In 1975 Carl I. Flath, wrote a book called The Miracle Nutrient – How Dietary Fiber Can Save Your Life. In his book he talks about the effectiveness of drugstore suppositories,

“Suppositories quickly work their way up in the rectum beyond the location of most internal hemorrhoids, and so are of limited value in reducing local pain. As antiseptics they are essentially worthless, since the surface areas they are supposed to protect are under constant exposure to new bacteria….

Anesthetic agents do offer temporary relief from local irritations and pain… Neither the suppositories nor the ointments, however, do anything whatever to correct the basic cause of hemorrhoids—constipation.”

One particular report, published in a British Medical Journal, would like you to believe that. Their report stated that aspirin therapy should be used in cases where patients are at a high risk of cardiovascular disease, heart attack or stroke. Ideally we do not want to get to the point where we're considered high risk.

How Does Aspirin Supposedly Reduce The Risks Of Heart Attack?

Simply put, aspirin will dilate your arteries creating more room within the arteries for your blood to flow. That is medical science's recommendation when you are at a high risk of heart attack or stroke. Dilate arteries and all will be well.

Is It Really That Simple?

Of course I jest, as they do offer more recommendations such as prescription heart medicine, angioplasty or bypass surgery. Anyhow, getting back on topic, aspirin also inhibits the blood clotting process crucial to controlling bleeding. Without this process working, the result can be uncontrollable bleeding that can cause you to bleed to death if you were cut and couldn't get medical attention quickly enough.

Did you know that if you are scheduled for surgery of any kind, the surgeon will not perform the operation if you have been taking aspirins? You would have to stop taking the aspirin and wait until its out of your system before they would operate.

That tells me that dilating the arteries may not be the way to go. What do you think? Personally, I don't think it's worth the risk to take the "aspirin a day" especially since there is a better, more effective way.

In addition, what happens as the plaque in your arteries keeps building up and continues to narrow the openings within your arteries and finally becoming completely blocked/closed. Will the aspirin prevent a heart attack or stroke if the arteries become blocked? You bet it won't.

The Natural Way To Solve The Problem Without The Risk

If the medical profession spent more time and effort on preventing the problem in the first place there would be less people struggling with heart disease. Instead they find ways of treating the symptoms with the use of drugs after the damage has been done.

By using the right nutritional plan, which includes specific vitamins and minerals, the body will not only heal itself, but will prevent any arterial plaque build-up while dissolving any existing plaque that may be in your arteries already.

Staying healthy is easier than you think. Don't eat foods that contain hydrogenated fats (also known as Trans-Fats) as these are manufactured fats. According to the Harvard School of Public Health, doctors warn against eating trans fats because studies show that trans fats raise LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and put people at risk of heart attacks. Don't be afraid of fats however, as long as they are "good fats."

Take in more protein and Omega-3/Omega-6 fatty acids as these fats are extremely helpful in protecting against sudden heart attack or stroke. In addition, keep an eye on your LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and get them down if too high, while raising your HDL (good) cholesterol.

Supplement your healthy eating with the right combination of vitamins, minerals, and glandular concentrates that will "scrub" your arteries clean of deadly plaque. Make sure you get some exercise in there as well. Good health is all about good nutrition... not about drugs or surgery.

People tend to consume junk food and any other foods that are over-processed and contain high fat and sugar. This allows the chemically-laced food to sit in colon for longer time and lead to the cancer disease.

Several ways to keep your colon healthy:

1. Balancing your diet
A balance diet will supply your body with sufficient nutrition: balance in carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals. It will be better to get all these nutritions naturally by consuming healthy foods such as: fresh vegetables and beans, fish, fruits, seafood and milk. Taking daily supplements also will help.

2. Reduce over-processed foods
Reduce intake of over-processed foods, especially fried foods because these foods contain of high fat that is dangerous to health. You can also choose organic foods that are higher in nutrition. Avoid sausage, hot dogs, ham, and many of which contain salt, sodium nitrites and sodium nitrates, which play big role in leading to colon cancer.

3. Exercise regularly
Do exercise at least 3 times a week is adequate to maintain your stamina and health. If you have any disease, it would be wise to consult with your doctor what exercise suits your current condition.

4. Drink eight glasses of water daily
Adequate water is essential to your body and will help to clean your system by gently washing out offensive bacteria and germs that can harbor in the colon and lead to illness or problems.

5. Colon cleansing
